PRACTICE AREAS
Andrew J. Lorin is a trial lawyer and a partner of the New York office of Hecht Partners LLP. Andrew has broad litigation experience as a partner at two AmLaw 75 law firms, as a prosecutor for the New York State Attorney General, and as General Counsel of two insurance litigation organizations. He has litigated cases in state and federal courts across the United States—including in Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York (where he is admitted), North Carolina, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania (where he is admitted), Rhode Island, Texas, Washington State, Washington, D.C., and Wisconsin – and in foreign jurisdictions, such as France and the U.K. He also regularly represents clients in appellate matters, arbitrations, and mediations, as well as in administrative and regulatory proceedings.
Andrew represents clients in complex commercial cases, including contract disputes, securities matters, business tort cases, antitrust and unfair competition matters, IP disputes, insurance litigation, real estate and construction disputes, and bankruptcy litigation.
He was the lead attorney for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in a pair of prominent cases involving a dispute between Lincoln and T. Boone Pickens regarding a $240 million insurance program. Lincoln was awarded summary judgment, as affirmed by the Fifth Circuit, as well as full costs. Andrew also first-chaired the damages portion of $500 million software trial before the International Court of Arbitration in Paris. The matter was favorably settled after trial and prior to decision.
Andrew is a graduate of Brown University, where he was a double major in English and biology was editor of Spectrum Political-Economic Journal and a member of Sigma Xi, the National Science Honors Society. Andrew graduated from New York University School of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board and won the American Jurisprudence Prize in International Litigation. In furtherance of his representations of clients running internal investigations and defending against external investigations, Andrew studied investigative journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, receiving a Masters of Science in 2007.

Lead attorney for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company in prominent cases involving a dispute between client and T. Boone Pickens regarding a $240 million insurance program. Client was awarded summary judgment, as affirmed by the Fifth Circuit.
First chair damages portion of $500 million software trial before the International Court of Arbitration in Paris. The matter was favorably settled after trial and prior to decision.
First chair representation of Sun Life Financial in major antitrust and business tort litigation involving non-recourse premium financing.
Led successful nationwide trial and appellate campaign for MetLife to shape judicial statutory interpretation of structured settlement law.
Argued and won a groundbreaking appeal in the Court of Appeals of Texas – the first appellate court to hold that courts may not require annuity issuers to divide periodic payments.
First chair in successful trial defense of subsidiary of BB&T; Bank in dispute with brokers. Verdict in favor of client, dismissing case and awarding full costs to client.
First-chaired prominent and successful state securities fraud case against Clark McLeod, former CEO of McLeodUSA. Won landmark decision, State v. McLeod, 12 Misc.3d 1157(A), holding that executives’ IPO spinning constituted securities fraud.
Led defense against attempts of the New York State Comptroller to audit New York Liquidation Bureau. Won landmark decision, Dinallo v. DiNapoli, 9 N.Y.3d 94 (2007), holding that the Bureau is not a state agency and therefore not subject to state audit.
First-chaired prominent and successful state securities fraud case against Bernard Ebbers, former CEO of WorldCom.
Represented Global 100 insurer in successful mediation of nine-figure advertising injury coverage dispute.
Directed nationwide strategy for insurer client regarding 419A and 419(e) welfare benefit trusts, including regulatory matters and defense of claims and threatened claims.
