Practice Areas
Intellectual Property: Patent, Trademark, Copyright and Trade Secret
Our intellectual property team comprises experienced litigators with technical backgrounds ranging from electrical engineering and computer science to neuroscience. The team has litigated on both sides, representing plaintiffs in patent monetization campaigns and defending against them. We have experience in nearly every facet of intellectual property, including patent, copyright/DMCA, trademark, trade secret, and right of publicity. We have also provided strategic patent and IP counseling, diligence, and audits on behalf of patent holders and other companies.
We have appeared in dozens of patent-related matters for industry giants in communications technology and bio/pharmaceuticals, and tried numerous district court and International Trade Commission cases to verdict. Our attorneys’ past trials include Apple v. Samsung, the “patent trial of the century.”
Our team also defeated Apple in its motion for summary judgment against our client Corellium. The Court dismissed all of Apple’s copyright claims against Corellium, finding fair use of iOS.
Commercial Litigation & Arbitration
Hecht Partners has extensive experience with complex commercial litigation. Our attorneys are well-versed in alternative dispute resolution, securities disputes, breach of contract disputes, insurance litigation, mergers and acquisitions disputes, and breach of fiduciary duty claims. We also have significant background in business torts, including defamation, fraud, and false endorsement.
Human Rights
The attorneys in our human rights practice are co-lead counsel in Kashef v. BNP Paribas, S.A., which seeks compensation for the victims of the genocide in Sudan, and have served as advocates in several other landmark international human rights cases. Practice chair Kathryn Lee Boyd is an authority in the field, having taught, practiced, and published on human rights for 25 years.
Members of the human rights practice have also litigated international human rights disputes involving foreign sovereigns, federal agencies, and commercial entities, and represented terrorist highjacking victims before the U.S. Foreign Claims Settlement Commission. The firm puts its emphasis on litigating landmark actions seeking restitution and compensation for victims and survivors of grave breaches of human rights.
Class Actions
We are plaintiff advocates on a wide array of topics because we understand that class actions are a means to justice and a way to effect widespread positive change.
Our clients include victims of human rights abuses and employer malfeasance, and we presently represent students in tuition refund suits and businesses in insurance disputes over the COVID-19 pandemic. Our attorneys not only have deep experience in litigating class actions, but are attuned to the needs of our clients and committed to fighting for them—and the class of individuals they represent—no matter the opposition.
Transnational Litigation & Arbitration
Our transnational litigation practice handles complex issues such as foreign sovereign immunity, cross-border disputes, foreign domestic and investment property restitution, and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards.
Our attorneys have successfully represented U.S. terrorism victims in international litigation and arbitration, and enforcement of judgment against Iran. We have also successfully represented investors worldwide in international arbitrations.
